XtraMath offers the possibility to learn the fundamental notions of the four operations’ mathematics, based on a path based on graduality. Fractions, decimals, multi-digit algorithms are explained to tackle subsequent more complex problems optimally.

Parents can use it with their children, but also by teachers at school or as a homework assignment. The free program, upon registration, takes into account the student’s progress.

Teachers can organize an online class with their pupils naturally. XtraMath does not contain advertising, is also available in many other foreign languages, and provides apps for IOS, Android, Amazon smartphones and tablets, and Facebook’s support.

    General Information

XtraMath is an attractive free web platform dedicated to primary school mathematics and set up as a complete classroom activity management program.

The authors define it as an authentic “vitamin” for primary school mathematics. By using XtraMath once a day, children will gain mastery, especially in the four operations (plus, minus, multiple, and divide).

The XtraMath platform has been used worldwide, and the multi-languages are also available. Once you have chosen your language, you can view the videos intended for the presentation of the program, inform students about students’ activities, and how to access the monitoring of learning to guide parents and teachers to use them.

Access to all the activities in XtraMath passes through a free registration of the teacher. Denote that in the guide, it invites teachers to enter a class code on computers that do not exist. In fact, instead of the class code, you can enter your teacher account on the machines where the children will work.

Android and iOS apps are also available, but for a fee. Even if they are not essential, XtraMath can also be used from the tablet browser.

    Background Story

Established with the goal of “letting every child master math,” XtraMath is a Seattle-based non-profit organization. Their goal is to develop effective, adaptable, and intrinsically challenging auxiliary math activities.

XtraMath began in the fall of 2007 when computer programmer David Yesheke was very aware of the need for a personalized math practice program when he volunteered at a local elementary school. XtraMath has quickly spread to other classrooms through word of mouth and continues to grow into a program tailored for students, teachers, and parents’ needs.

Here is the information of the members of XtraMath developing team:

    • Adobe’s Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, and QA are trainees from Eileen Nelson. Irene likes the contribution of mathematics in the world of nature, football, and the arts.
    • Christopher Robert is a teacher with a national faculty qualification from the Seattle School District. In 2009, they elected him Hero in the Classroom.
    • Jennifer Truelac leads internationalization from Seattle. She is a French and Italian translator/teacher. She learns new languages and writes a blog about the tales of a word that interest her.
    • Sterling Nelson has a BS in Biology from California State University Davis, who enjoys computer programming. In his spare time, he plays and teaches Ultimate Frisbee (American sports competition using Frisbee).
    • The very patient Erica Newell answers emails from parents and teachers. She has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Depot University.
    • Claudia Mesa, the Spanish language math teacher, is called “Maestra A.” Originally from Colombia, she lives with her husband in Portland, Oregon, and represents the locally reputable children’s language school, Kids Like Languages.

What Is the Purpose of XtraMath?

XtraMath is a program that helps students transition from counting and calculating to recalling answers. Recalling the answers without having to figure each one in the head gives students more mental space to perform more advanced calculations.

XtraMath timed activities have the purpose of helping students answer questions as quickly as possible. Combined with repeated practice, you will recall the answers in your head effectively. The threshold of three seconds is long enough to enter the recalled answer in your head, but not enough to enter the answer counter and calculated by the students.

Students need to know the number of counting and calculation methods. And they must do math problems in an unconstrained environment before beginning practice with XtraMath.

    How to Use XtraMath?

    User Accounts

Both parent and teacher accounts can access the same student grade data, but the way it organizes students is different:

    • Teacher accounts organize students into classes on the last day, making it easier to track the progress of many students during the academic year at once. Teachers will receive weekly summary reports of class activities.
    • Parental accounts focus on the progress of a few children. Parents will receive weekly reports that include child-specific reports.

Teachers who want to use XtraMath not only at school but also at home for their children will need to select both options during enrollment and create a dual-parent/teacher account. The dual account has a special section called “My Child” that distinguishes your child from the school’s assigned classes.

You can also convert your existing parent or teacher account to a dual statement. Please see the checkbox at the bottom of the Account page when changing your account settings.

    XtraMath Program

The program assigned to a student determines the calculations that students will practice in XtraMath. The program may include all four arithmetics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), or we may limit it to specific calculations (such as multiplication). Students will practice one count at a time until they become proficient before moving on to the next calculation.

By default, the Computational Problem Set comprises one-digit problems and vice versa, as explained in the glossary. Upon request from some schools and school districts, the expansion calculation includes up to 12 arithmetic operations.

Finally, the program determines the threshold. By default, if the student can enter the correct answer within 3 seconds, we will consider a quick response. With the custom program, it reduces the threshold to 2 seconds or 1.5 seconds. These programs are for students who have completed the 3-second level calculation and want to take on more challenges. The custom program increases the threshold to 6 seconds.

The “assessment only” program comprises only graded tests, allowing teachers to identify progress gaps. These programs will allow you to proceed directly from level to level without waiting for students to become familiar with each calculation.

    Speed Practice

XtraMath helps students transition from counting and calculating to recalling necessary calculations. The timer allows XtraMath to distinguish between answers obtained by counting and calculating and responses by the recall.

The default learning threshold of 3 seconds is long enough to enter the recalled answer in mind, but not enough to enter the answer counter and calculated by the students.

In response to your request, we added a function to hide the timer. However, the assessment of student answers will continue to be based on response time. As it relaxes time constraints, students may have longer response times, which may slow them down below the proficiency level they may have achieved or slow down their progress.

    XtraMath Reports

XtraMath has three types of reports.

    • The Student Report shows the progress of each student.
    • The class report summarizes the progress for the entire class. Class reports are only displayed for teacher accounts.
    • A date report shows all activity for a particular student on a specific date.

To access any report, sign in to your parent or teacher account. Click on a tab to see the corresponding class or student report. If you have a teacher account, click the student name in the Class Report to view the Student Report.

Click the cluster tab to return to the class report. Click the user icon to the right of the class report or the date with the user icon in the student report calendar to display the date report.

You will receive a weekly email with a PDF version of your report unless you choose not to receive it in the Change Email Settings. You can also export class and student data for custom reporting and analysis.

    Mastery Score

We should regard the mastery score as the completion rate of calculation. For example, a proficiency score of 75 means that the student has completed about three-quarters of the total estimate.

We should not take it as a grade (e.g., 90% = A). It is common for students to have an initial mastery score of less than 30 and take weeks to complete the calculation. It calculates this skill as a weight percentage, so a simple count like +0, +1, ×0, ×1 will be less than a more complicated calculation.

It bases the proficiency score solely on the results of the test activity and does not affect the performance during the practice activity. For a student to reach a 100-point proficiency score, all questions must be answered correctly within the proficiency threshold, twice in the past three times.

    FAQs

XtraMath seems to be too fast for my child. How can I deal with it?

XtraMath is not designed to measure students’ computational abilities, but to see if you can recall the basic math answers. The threshold of 3 seconds is a reasonable length, even if the recalled answer is input at a relatively slow speed.

To maximize its effectiveness, XtraMath will tailor it to each student and provide exercises tailored to their abilities. Some students may find this setting offensive. If a student can’t get a correct answer within 3 seconds, it’s good to think he is just unlucky for XtraMath tests, not thinking he has failed.

Below are some common concerns and solutions.

    • Slow typing: Most students will get used to typing numbers after a few extra mass sessions. But if speed is a problem, try practicing numbers before using XtraMath. You can find many numbers of input games by searching for Google.
    • Problems with exceptional motor function: Some students find the touch screen more convenient than the keyboard or mouse. Other options are for students to read the answer aloud or for adults or older children to enter it instead.

If your students are irritated and your XtraMath is at a level where it can be counterproductive, try a custom program with a threshold of 6 seconds. This program increases the prompt answer threshold from 3 seconds to 6 seconds, and the answer time limits from 10 seconds to 20 seconds.

Since the 6-second threshold is not an accurate measure of speed, we recommend that the unpacking program use it only as needed to gain confidence in the calculations.

Hiding the timer is another option. There is no change in the threshold, but we protect the timer during the student activity.

It’s a new school year. How do I move an existing student account to my new class?

Teachers need not move students. XtraMath minimizes the burden on teachers and also eliminates the need for teachers to collect and enter XtraMath account information from students.

If you are creating a new class, add all the students as new and bring back their parent’s prints. If parents follow the edition, their previous year’s accounts will be integrated into the new class. Whether you are practicing at home or school, parents of the customer and the student in charge will see the progress of that student in XtraMath.

The only exception is the “lifting class,” which continues to offer the same class in the new academic year. In that case, you can extend the end date of your course by one year.

Why do students sign in with their parents or teachers’ email addresses?

Students of all ages use XtraMath. The youngest students rarely have an email address. It links every XtraMath student account to a parent or teacher account. Therefore, when students sign in, they need their name and PIN, and the email address of the parent or teacher statement.

If appropriate, we recommend that you select the Remember Me checkbox on the Student Sign-In page so that students do not have to enter their email address multiple times. Students who sign in with Google will continue to sign in with Google from the next time onwards or use the parent or teacher’s email address as described above.

    Final Words

XtraMath APK is a quick calculation app for repeated training and improves the accuracy of rapid calculation. Some students make mistakes besides and subtraction repeatedly.

For example, they always get the wrong result for calculations, and XtraMath APK comes to solve that problem. XtraMath app will automatically strengthen the practice for your child.

Teachers can also print student performance reports through their interface. There are also apps with the same functions, such as Symbolab, but you will have to pay a higher premium.
